Oak Lane Children's Centre involved a comprehensive remodelling of, and extension to, an outdated health centre originally built in the 1930s. The project enables the centralisation of children's health services within this area of Barnet.
Accommodation includes specialist rooms including paediatric audiology, dental and mental health services, as well as more generic group and consultation space. The centre also provides an administration base for community-based staff such as school nurses.
A range of options was developed to ensure that the budget was apportioned appropriately between the new-build areas and the general refurbishment.
