Cambridge Children's Hospital

NHS England and NHS Improvement East of England have a clear vision for an integrated mental and physical health facility for children and young people, co-located with research and delivered through a joint proposal between the University of Cambridge (CU), Cambridge University Hospital (CUH) and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHSFT (CPFT).

This innovative approach will provide the East of England with an essential children and young people’s services hub, which will be able to support GPs, community services and district general hospitals across the region, significantly strengthening existing clinical and research networks to keep care close to home and support the development of a sustainable regional pediatric workforce.

The facility will provide clinical services dedicated to children and young people, such as:

• Diagnostic Imaging
• Theatres
• Research Labs, Clinical Trials, Pharmacy
• Outpatients
• Private Patients and
• Wards to support the Day Care, Day Assessment, Oncology, Adolescent, Medical and Surgical needs

The scheme will be delivered in a phased approach with the first phase involving the transfer of CPFT’s CAMHS unit. This includes the transfer of up to 40 patient beds and mental health support services from the Ida Darwin Hospital site.

Murphy Philipps have worked closely with the Trusts and University during the early stages of the scheme whilst also developed with the CPFT stakeholders their clinical brief and models of care.

Mindful of the programme and funding streams Murphy Philipps, with partners AECOM, Northmore and Allies and Morrison, are developing the initial phase 0.5 proposals to establish the CPFT Tier 4 services and CUH beds on the site.
