Intensive Care Unit Refurbishment

Murphy Philipps, along with aLL Design Qatar were appointed to look at the re-modelling and refurbishment of the existing ICU Unit at Al Khor Hospital, in the Northern region of Qatar.

The existing ICU unit is dated, and below recommended space standards. The objectives were for the department to be re-modelled, refurbished and extended into the double width adjacent corridor to accommodate 9 Adult ICU beds with improved support spaces.

The functional brief includes: 8 contained single rooms; 1 isolation room with en-suite WC and gowning lobby; and all related support accommodation.

A new ICU waiting space is to be provided in the nearby courtyard. This area will support and complement the new ICU unit.

Murphy Philipps led the design from their London offices through RIBA stages 1-3 with stakeholder user meetings held both on site, and remotely. Design standards are based on UK HBN regulations
