The new Lymington Community Hospital is an innovative new facility designed to function efficiently and to provide a therapeutic environment. The building is organised around a hospital street, open at both ends, providing a feeling of spaciousness. This is enhanced by the two atria forming the main entrance and outpatient waiting spaces.
The hospital provides accommodation for 96 inpatients, a treatment centre, day surgery, endoscopy, imaging, rehabilitation and therapy facilities. The PCT has used the building design process as a catalyst to re-engineer models of care and service delivery patterns.
The building won the 'Best Primary and Community Care Design' category at the 2007 Building Better Healthcare award and was shortlisted for the Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award.
